Union Square | Exploring South Africa

13 E. 13th Street, New York, NY 10003

While it might not necessarily be a wine region on your radar, South Africa has been producing grapes and wine since the mid-1600s. Some grape varieties that you might already know like Chenin Blanc called Steen and Cabernet Franc are found in South Africa. Other red grapes include Cabernet Sauvignon. Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Shiraz, Pinot Noir, and Tinta Barroca are also successful throughout the country's six large geographical areas. So what makes South African wines so unique? It's the ingenious blend of Old World traditionalism and the fruit-driven modern practices of the New World, combined with sustainability initiatives focused on environmentalism and the people. Come find out for yourself.
